The latest Astronomy and Astrophysics Decadal Survey, [http://www.nationalacademies.org/Astro2010 Astro2010], is underway.

To assist the committee, the scientific community was asked to submit [http://www7.nationalacademies.org/bpa/Astro2010_Request_for_Input.html white papers] focusing on how our understanding of the scientific frontiers in astronomy may be advanced.
