WSO Task Report (WTR) Number: 27 Descriptive Name: roaming dome Initiator: Jeneen Sommers Date Opened: 2002/05/06 09:44 Date Problem Occurred: 000/00/00 Priority: 2 Serious Status: Closed -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description of Problem: The dome occassionally becomes confused about where it should be around noon. This happens sporadically, but can happen daily for several days in a row. When it happens, the dome ends up parking itself at west and no data are collected until the problem is noticed and the observation is restarted. It is also sometimes not possible to get observations started +/- half an hour of local noon, because the dome cannot figure out where it's supposed to be. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Possible Consequences If Problem Persists: Loss of data. The magscans are particulary affected because that is what is usually running around noon, and magscans aren't useful if they have long intervals between the integrations. They have to be scrapped and restarted, and there isn't always time for that. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Solution, Possible Solution, or Trouble Shooting Steps: Look at the code and see if there is a problem there. One place to start is in domepos.c: /* Freeze domepos for 15 min near crossover time to avoid unnecessary motion */ /* Only freeze on days with sudden jumps across */ solaltaz(Time, alt,&az); if( fabs(Time - *co_time) < deadtime ) domepos = Time > *co_time ? co_Wpos : co_Epos; else getangle(&domepos,x,y,z,*alt,az); -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Comments: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date Updated: 2002/05/15 14:57 Updated by: John Beck Update Information: The following observations of the dome during failure have been made: 1) The curpos (dome position) on Daystar does not change during the 'roaming period' 2) Every 15 seconds(the wait period for testing to see if the Dome must advance) the dome advances to the new calculated position -- but since the current position isn't updated it continues to do so until it hits the West limit switch. This causes it to rotate back to the East. The position does not always update when passing through the South (reset) position!! (thus more than the dome encoder is causing problems). The correction can take as little as a few minutes or last a long time - so it is possible that dome fialures have gone undetected. 3) The dome position on HWMON on QPC doesn't change during this period. 4) After hitting the West limit and swinging to the East limit (once or more) the Dome position starts to be updated and the dome process continues working as normal. 5) Ever since the Dome_out log file has been changed (~may 8) the dome process has failed around 1:40 pm PDT. 6) The dome encoder is not hot to tuoch when the dome roams -- it had been in the shade all morning. 7) There are obvious skid marks on the Dome traction belt (sand paper) in the location corresponding to when the dome usually starts to roam. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date Updated: 2007/10/09 13:41 Updated by: Jeneen Sommers Update Information: testing... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date Updated: 2007/10/09 13:41 Updated by: Jeneen Sommers Update Information: testing... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date Updated: 2007/10/10 09:59 Updated by: Jeneen Sommers Update Information: test -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date Assigned: 2007/10/10 10:05 Actionees: John Beck Action: test -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date Updated: 2007/10/10 10:25 Updated by: Jeneen Sommers Update Information: test -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date Closed: 2007/10/10 14:35 Resolution: Dome motion sensor was disassembled and cleaned - dome no longer roams -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date Closed: 2008/05/27 00:04 Resolution: rrHFR6 crsherochxzt, eisvmvuwfhcx, [link=http://cgykixofoojr.com/]cgykixofoojr[/link], http://kuqmxnjpuuqs.com/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------
